Drop the firewall

Welcome to Drop the firewall. This blog is a technical notebook. A place to write about networking, security, GNU/Linux, cloud computing, and related technologies. Sometimes as practical notes, other times as more conceptual reflections. There is no promise of regular posting or a rigid editorial line: there is curiosity, technical judgment, and a desire to understand how things actually work. ``

The name is not meant literally. This is not about turning off firewalls or promoting magical solutions. It is rather an invitation to question assumptions, review configurations, and lower our guard a bit regarding what we think we already know. Personally, I believe that in technology—as in many other areas—the problem is often not the lack of tools, but an excess of dogmas.

From a technical standpoint, the site is built as a simple and conscious project: a static site generator ( Hugo   ), version control (on GitLab   ), automated deployment (via Cloudflare Pages   ), and very few dependencies. The goal is to keep the content lightweight, accessible, easy to maintain, and possible to write even without an internet connection. Less platform, more text.

This blog is also a personal space, though not an intimate one. It is not meant to be a portfolio or a definitive manual. It is more of a record: of ideas, learnings, mistakes, and open questions. If someone finds it useful, great. If it sparks discussion, even better.

That’s all for now. The rest will be written here over time.

About me

My name is Damián Muraña. I have worked as an IT solutions architect, cybersecurity specialist, information security officer, and related roles. I specialize in networking, security, virtualization, and cloud computing. I enjoy working with Linux systems and modern, distributed architectures. I am interested in understanding technology beyond trends and sales-driven narratives. I write to organize ideas, learn more effectively, and share what I discover along the way.
